Down on the ground
Once you've got your bearings, walk the length of the 2km long monumental city walls and get close-up views of the Old Port and Town and the Adriatic. The imposing walls are up to 6m thick and were started as early as the 12th century. Start at the Pile Gate entrance and continue past the Minceta Tower, the Revelin and St Ivan fortresses and Fort Bokar.
Market visit
Start your day with a trip to the open-air market at Gundulic Square in Dubrovnik Old Town, stock up on dried lavender sachets, candied fruit and local artisanal products then grab a coffee and watch the world go by from the corner of the square.
A moment of calm
Churches such as the Cathedral and the churches of St. Blaise and St Ignatius play an important role in Dubrovnik's cultural heritage. When you need a moment of calm, step off the beaten track into St. Sebastian's, a 14th century Dominican Friary with a Gothic cloister, garden and well.
