Villa Flavia is over 450 years old and is situated in a car-free zone in one of the quiet cobbled streets of the old town of Stari Grad on the island of Hvar, which itself is very beautiful and serene. The house has 90 square metres of living area and 200 square metres of leafy walled garden. It is surrounded by old medieval winding streets and tiny squares, and only half a mile from the beach.

The villa has been lovingly renovated and tastefully furnished with a mixture of local antiques and comfortable beds. The stone walls of the villa make the house cool in the summer, and the overall colour scheme of honey coloured stone, pale wood floors, crisp blue and white linens reflect the natural Adriatic palette. The leafy secluded garden with the view of the pinewood hills makes this a perfect summer retreat.

FLIGHTS AND TRAVEL OPTIONS TO STARI GRAD

ISLAND OF HVAR

The simplest connection to the island is to fly to Split and connect by ferry from Split ferry port to either Stari Grad (car ferry) or Hvar town (passenger ferry). Details also on the Jadrolinija website.

Another option is to fly to Dubrovnik. The road journey from Dubrovnik Airport to Split ferry port is four hours with a scenic motorway much of the way. If you want to spend a day or two in Dubrovnik this can work fine. There is a ferry crossing from the coast road at Drvenik to Sucuraj at the east end of Hvar island. However we would warn travellers that the 75km road up the island to Hvar town is very narrow and bendy; a difficult and slow route.

GUEST REVIEWS

Villa Flavia is beautiful and Stari Grad is an enchanting place to visit. Lovely cobbled lanes with lots of yummy restaurants to visit at night and a short walk to gorgeous swimming spots. We had a wonderful time.

Amazing property, with huge garden and perfectly equipped

Amazing property, with huge garden, sitting area, beautiful decorations of the old stone house. Every little detail is on the right place, rooms are comfortable, kitchen is perfectly equipped, would definitely like to go there again. You can relax in the natural shade in the garden, or go exploring the rest of island because the house is situated at a great location for exploring island Hvar.

Hvar Island is absolutely beautiful, The location of the house is excellent

We have enjoyed every moment of our stay - and can highly recommend for others. There is something for all ages - we travelled with two daughters, aged 11 and 20. The atmosphere of Stari Grad is very special - authentic despite the tourists. The location of the house is excellent as it is footsteps away from the charming little harbour with cafe, restaurants and shops, bank, bakery, pharmacy etc. The house is in the old part of Stari Grad and very nicely decorated inside. It was also very clean when we arrived. In addition, it has a beautiful patio and small garden. Hvar Island is absolutely beautiful - and the people very helpful and friendly. There are many wonderful beaches (small Stones) and possibilities for enjoying the clean, turquoise coloured water. We could easily have spent another week as there are so many things to explore in the area - and many good options for excursions. We only managed to see some of the most important things, and would definitely like to return to explore more. In summery, Hvar Island and Stari Grad has the Southern Europe charm, but is more unspoiled and cheaper than France and Italy and - and has fantastic clean beautiful water.
