OVERVIEW

The villa consists of a two bedroom farmhouse and two small barns, with one double bedroom each. The three units are within a few meters of each other. The courtyard of the villa is paved with old local stone, which is aesthetically very pleasing. From the villa and its grounds there is a really amazing view over the vineyards of Hvar and the beautiful Adriatic sea. The villa is sensitively restored and decorated with a tasteful panel of Mediterranean colours, with windows and terraces orientating towards the best views.

The villa is in a remote location reached by an unsurfaced but easily driven road. The villa is powered by solar energy with a back up generator with ample power to operate all electical appliances. The villa does not have airconditioning but is in an elevated position where a gentle breeze keeps the house cool. The bedrooms have fans.

This villa is set in the lavender fields of Hvar with breathtaking views across the Adriatic and provides a truly unique and authentic experience.

Listening to the silence
We spent a wonderful week in this extraordinary property in the heart of the island. For a family of 2 adults and 4 kids this was a deliberating experience of freedom, comfort and refined luxury but in an unspoiled relation to the nature and local tradition. The property is really spacious and well maintained, views are magnificent, service is excellent and there are plenty outdoor activities available. Location is ideal for hiking, jogging or (mountain)biking. For the romantic ones the starry nights and "silence to hear" is unforgettable. Not to be recommended for those who can't live without urban flair, seaside promenades and beach-and-bar activities. Although we have experienced many similar properties in France and Italy, this one is definitely top-ranked.

Hvar island

The simplest connection to the island is to fly to Split and connect by ferry from Split ferry port to either Stari Grad (car ferry) or Hvar town (passenger ferry).

The car ferry (Jadrolinja line 635) is a two hour crossing and runs seven times a day in peak season. The last crossing from Split is at 8.30pm although in July and August there is also a 1.30am crossing.   The cost for a car and four adult passengers will be around €65 each way. The fast passenger only catamaran services takes approximatley 55 minutes and arrives directly on the Riva in Hvar town.  There are regular catamaran services provided by Jadrolinija and Kapetan Luka. Refer to their websites for timetables. Tickets on the Kapetan Luka fast catamaran will be around €13.50 a head one way but are cheaper with Jadrolinija.

Another option is to fly to Dubrovnik. From Dubrovnik Airport to Drvenik on the coast road is 145km (two hours 20 minutes drive) and from here there is a ferry to Sucuraj at the east end of Hvar island. The crossing is 35 minutes and the ferry runs 11 times a day with the earliest departure from Drvenik at 5.45am and the last at 10.45pm (Jadrolinija line 632). However we would warn travellers that the 75km road up the island to Hvar town is very narrow and bendy; a slow route and although scenic a difficult drive.

There is a daily crossing to the pretty harbour town of Jelsa on the north coast of Hvar island. This crossing (line 9603 with Jadrolinija) runs once a day leaving Split in the afternoon and stopping at Bol on Brac island en route. The ferry back from Jelsa to Split departs early in the morning so can provide a day trip from Hvar island to Split or for a day on the Golden Horn beach in Bol on Brac island.   A day trip from Hvar to Korcula town is possible on the Kapetan Luka catamaran service which departs daily in the morning and returns late afternoon. Expect to pay around €30 return.

Croatian Villa Holidays can organize private taxi boat transfers from the quay near Split airport to Hvar.  Prices will depend on date, time and the numbers in your party. Crossing time generally about 50 minutes to one hour.

Split Airport

Split Airport is located to the west of Split close to the town of Trogir. It is 25 minutes drive from the airport to the ferry port in Split although you should allow longer in mid summer.

Dubrovnik Airport

Dubrovnik Airport is located near the town of Cavtat 19km to the south of Dubrovnik. There are direct flights to Dubrovnik from most European countries and from Philadelphia in the USA.

There are bus and taxi services into Dubrovnik centre. A taxi transfer can be expected to cost around 35 to 40 euro one way depending on the time of day and the season and a minibus around 50-60 euros.   A shuttle bus service from the airport to Dubrovnik is 7.5 euro per person each way.

Croatian Villa Holidays can arrange taxi transfers directly to your villa.
