Villa Juno (triple window and balcony)
The pool and courtyard
Villa Juno is an outstanding, historically important Baroque period villa, situated in an exceptional location on one of the most beautiful islands in the world, the island of Hvar in southern Croatia. This villa was built in 1600, when the architecture of Hvar reached its most sublime period under the influence of the Venetian culture. After a year of renovation under the strict supervision of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments the villa has retained all its architectural period features and the character of a wealthy Venetian home, with every luxury and comfort inside, including a walled garden, a wellness room and a swimming pool. The villa is in the heart of Hvar’s medieval centre and only 30 metres from the sea front. An unusual feature for a villa in the very centre of Hvar is the villa’s 200 square metre garden.

The villa comprises of 450 square metres of living space and is arranged on three floors, exactly how it was in its original form during the 17th century Venetian era. There are five en-suite bedrooms, a large living room with a library, a kitchen and a dining room. In the basement there is a wellness floor with a Jacuzzi, sauna and a massage room, and also a wine cellar.
A large airy sitting room with beautiful oak floor, comfortable cream sofas, armchairs and additional seating is tastefully decorated with beautiful furniture, stone fireplace, lighting, mirrors and paintings. A special feature of the sitting room are three grand floor to ceiling windows which open out onto a classic balustrade balcony with the view of the harbour and the sea. A satellite TV/DVD and music centre are provided.
The kitchen and dining area have beautiful old flagstone floors. The white kitchen is fully equipped with every facility for gourmet cooking, and has a white work table. It includes an oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster and a coffee machine. The dining room is furnished with a large hand made pale wood table and leather dining chairs for 10 persons, and the elegant details of works of art, lighting and furniture continue the whole theme of the house. A large door opens out onto the patio, with a fantastic feeling of space and light indoors and out.
On this floor there are also two bedrooms; one double and one twin, each with en-suite shower room.

On the first floor a large (50 square metres) main bedroom with double bed is beautifully furnished, has a large balcony window and ensuite bathroom. Another large bedroom of 36 square metres has a twin beds and a shower room, and the third bedroom of 25 square metres has a double bed and a shower room.
Creams, sand, yellow and a touch of blue are the colour scheme throughout the bedrooms.

Swimming pool. A small additional stone house is located in the villa garden, and contains a 6 x 4 metre swimming pool. The large windows of the swimming pool can be lifted and the pool is then an outdoor pool. The pool opens out onto a lovely secluded stone patio surrounded by traditional stonewalls, beds of lavender and lemon trees. Top quality sunbeds are provided and stylish outdoor lighting illuminates the garden in the evening.
Garden. A 200 square metre garden is a rarity for such an old town centre house. The garden is supplied with an antique stone table and benches, and stocked with lavender, rosemary, jasmine and lemon trees.
Separate wicker outdoor sofas and armchairs provide another seating area. A classic wrought iron table and chairs are available for outdoor dining.

RESTAURANTS, BARS and NIGHTLIFE
Many good restaurants and bars are dotted all around the town of Hvar, serving either simple fresh seafood and pasta, or providing a full-on gastronomic experience, such as Macondo restaurant in one of the small Hvar streets. Seasoned party goers recommend the Carpe Diem nightclub in the harbour, which is furnished with exotic Arabian furniture and décor and provides cocktails and champagne until small hours of the morning.
More superb restaurants are located on the nearby Pakleni islands, which you can reach by a small ferry. Our favourites are Patak (also known as Kod Patka) and Meneghello, the latter in a lush tropical garden and decorated with exotic art work; they are both restaurants which provide great cooking and a magical location.

FLIGHTS AND TRAVEL OPTIONS TO HVAR TOWN
ISLAND OF HVAR
The simplest connection to the island is to fly to Split and connect by ferry from Split ferry port to either Stari Grad (car ferry) or Hvar town (passenger ferry). Details also on the Jadrolinija website.
Another option is to fly to Dubrovnik. The road journey from Dubrovnik Airport to Split ferry port is four hours with a scenic motorway much of the way. If you want to spend a day or two in Dubrovnik this can work fine. There is a ferry crossing from the coast road at Drvenik to Sucuraj at the east end of Hvar island. However we would warn travellers that the 75km road up the island to Hvar town is very narrow and bendy; a difficult and slow route.
