OVERVIEW

The ancient cottage Villa Salvia is an 80 square metre stone house recently restored by a family who live and work in Dubrovnik. The owners love local tradition, and are keen to preserve the little village and its authentic charm. If you are looking for a character cottage, with great views and peace all around it, this is the villa for you. The owner also owns a private stretch of coastline about 1.3km away where you will be able to go swimming in a quiet and totally secluded cove in the Ston estuary. There is also a wide sandy beach in Prapratno Bay, approx 10km away. In Ston and Mali Ston, approx 6km drive from the villa, there are some exceptional restaurants. Civilisation is just at your doorstep.

Accommodation

Ground floor

The house is on a slope. A few stone steps lead to a hallway which is connected to a games room with a table football, darts, TV and an old bread oven and a fireplace where all the cooking was done in the past. To the other side a few steps lead down to a good size sitting room with a kitchen and a dining area. A leather sofa and armchairs are good for the six people, and there is a direct access to a large outdoor terrace which has stunning views over the countryside. The country kitchen is equipped with a fridge/freezer, cooker, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee maker, cooking utensils and tableware. A bathroom/washing machine is also on the ground floor.

First floor

The first floor has three double bedrooms which share a bathroom. The three bedrooms have comfortable new double beds and a lot of wardrobe space and lovely views. All bed linen and bathroom towels are provided.

Outside

This villa has a good size garden arranged as terraces supported by traditional stone walls. The focal point is a lovely pool from where you can enjoy an amazing view over vineyards and olive groves, and have a swim at night when it is still warm. The garden has a barbecue with a dining table for six, and sun beds and parasols are provided.

Beautiful views...

Lovely villa in an isolated village. Beautiful views, great pool area/BBQ, very helpful owner. Small beach 10-15 minutes walk away, and Ston a 10 minute drive for shopping, eating and the walls. Well appointed kitchen, comfortable bedrooms, and air con which helps a lot when it's 40C. I'd love to go back!

About location:

Beautiful countryside surrounds the villa, so it's a great place to get away from the crowds and noise. Ston is a close drive for shopping and restaurants, and it's easy to get a bus from Ston to Dubrovnik. Further up the Peljesac peninsula are beautiful beaches, mountains and islands. A trip to Mjlet island is a must (get the ferry from Prapatno, or a private boat from Zuljana), and also a look around the Elefiti Islands. The local wines and olive oils need a try too- lots of places to taste and buy.

About Croatian Villa Holidays:

Very helpful and friendly staff with good local knowledge.

Beautiful family friendly villa

We had the most fantastic time in this beautiful family villa. It really has everything you could possibly need, and we spent most of our time in the villa by the fabulous pool.

About location:

It is close to the littel twon of Mali Ston, and there are some lovely sandy beaches 30-45 mins away.

Villa Salvia was perfect for us ...

I (rather belatedly for which I apologise) wanted to tell you how much we loved our week in Croatia.

Villa Salvia was perfect for us - all I'd hoped and more!  We loved the setting of the house:  such a peaceful hamlet, in lovely country and far from the bustle of more touristy places.  We really enjoyed using all the outdoor spaces.  Plenty of room to get away from each other!  The house was well equipped and comfortable.

About location:

It was such fun exploring the local area and doing trips to Dubrovnik and Korcula.  We had several delicious meals in various restaurants but also enjoyed cooking at the house.

About Croatian Villa Holidays:

Thank you so much for being so brilliant when I was struggling with contacting the owner.  I think the fault lay with my phone as my daughter had no problem once she tried.  I'm so sorry about that.

The person who met us at the house was delightful and very helpful.  My only comment would be that in the dark we did find it a bit of a challenge to find the house.  The directions were perfect for daylight arrival but as our planes were delayed we were driving at night. My husband says that it would have been helpful to have had distances along the lanes just to confirm we were taking the right turns as we couldn't really see the landmarks, including the critical oyster bar on the main road.

I do hope we might return to Croatia one day.

Comfortable villa, lovely small pool...
Comfortable villa, lovely small pool and good outside space. Many areas to sit or eat in the shade with table football, table tennis, disco!- all there. The owner is very nice, he met us in Dubrovnik to hand over keys and give directions, and he always answered questions
quickly. Air-con throughout was just powerful enough to keep villa comfortable. Ston/Mali Ston only a 10 minute drive for supermarkets/restaurants etc. An information pack would have been useful, with beach/day trip/shopping/restaurant suggestions. Also with doctor/emergency phone numbers etc - just for peace of mind. We did most of our exploring with guide books which isn't the same as local knowledge. Also the owner's contact details beforehand, he would have bought us first night food/drink if he'd been asked. Arriving after 9pm all shops will be closed.

About location:

Restaurants good in Mali Ston, beaches very crowded because they are small. Dubrovnik overrun by tourists and very expensive. Worth driving further up peninsula for better beaches and pretty towns.

Response from Croatian Villa Holidays:

Adam, thanks for the positive response. We have passed your comments in regards to an info-pack on to the owner. In general we are sending direction approx 10 weeks before the start of your holiday. These include the telephone number of the local contact/owner. Our apologies should this email not have reached you.

Mali Ston

Dubrovnik Airport is 1 hour drive from Mali Ston. An alternative is to fly to Split Airport and drive the 3 hours down the spectacular coast road, or the slightly quicker route down the inland motorway, from Split to Mali Ston. For travellers with some time to spare, the Split option provides the chance to visit Diocletian’s Palace in the centre of Split or take a full day detour on the southerly route by crossing by ferry to Supetar on the island of Brac and returning from Sumartin at the southern end of the island to Makarska on the mainland.

Dubrovnik Airport

Dubrovnik Airport is located near the town of Cavtat 19km to the south of Dubrovnik. There are direct flights to Dubrovnik from most European countries and from Philadelphia in the USA.

There are bus and taxi services into Dubrovnik centre. A taxi transfer can be expected to cost around 35 to 40 euro one way depending on the time of day and the season and a minibus around 50-60 euros.   A shuttle bus service from the airport to Dubrovnik is 7.5 euro per person each way.

Croatian Villa Holidays can arrange taxi transfers directly to your villa.

Split Airport

Split Airport is located to the west of Split close to the town of Trogir. It is 25 minutes drive from the airport to the ferry port in Split although you should allow longer in mid summer.
