OVERVIEW
This gorgeous, recently restored, old fisherman's home is located in the harbour of the most beautiful fishing village of Komiza, famous for its centuries-old fishing tradition. Fishermen set out in their wooden fishing boats right in front of the house, and return a few hours later laden with John Dory, sea bass, monkfish, sardines and lobster! Last time I was there they told me that the Komiza fishermnen teach fishing to the rest of the world! The house is surrounded by similar quaint dwellings and narrow pedestrian streets, markets, cafes and fresh fish restaurants. It is hidden behind a stone wall, and a gate leads you to a secluded courtyard, paved with the local stone and decorated with plant pots. Just as in the olden days, the ground floor of the villa is a wine cellar, and an outdoor stone staircase leads to the two upper floors, connected with an indoor wooden staircase. This villa is situated in a pedestrian zone, and a car space is reserved for it 100 metres away from the villa. And yes, the ABBA's Mamma Mia! was filmed on the island of Vis.
Accommodation
The accommodation comprises of 140 square metres in all and is arranged on three floors.
Ground floor
From the courtyard, a doorway leads directly to the kitchen/dining room which is equipped with a stove, oven, fridge freezer, microwave, toaster, coffee maker. It is a very nice plain, rustic place with a terracotta tiled floor and stone and brick walls. A large dining table can sit eight people comfortably. All cooking utensils, cutlery, crockery and glassware are included. One end of this living space is occupied by a sofa, and also has a satellite TV. Through the French doorway you can see the courtyard with flowers. The ground floor also has a small shower room.
First floor
An outside stone staircase leads to the first floor. This comprises of two double bedrooms and a second shower room. The bedrooms are decorated in warm Mediterranean yellows and terracotta, or a cool duck egg blue, and have lovely hardwood floors. The bedroom windows open out onto the gorgeous harbour view. The iron framed double beds have comfortable mattresses and the bedrooms are furnished with antique chests and wardrobes. All the bed linen and towels are included. This floor also has a small kitchenette, which guests will find practical.
Second floor
The first floor and the second floor are connected with an indoor wooden staircase. The second floor has one bedroom with a double bed, and one with a double and a single bed. There is also another shower room.
Outside
The house has a small enclosed patio, decoratively tiled with flat stone pieces. It has pretty stone and terracotta pots planted with greenery and flowers. Amongst those is an outdoor dining wooden table and benches. The villa has charm and character, and an additional attraction is the proximity of the beach, greengrocers, shops, market, restaurants and cafés. You are within minutes of a seafood and fish restaurant famous for its candle lit dinners. Within five minutes you will reach a pebbly beach with beautiful sea to swim in, surrounded by pine trees for shade.
