Villa Franica is a renovated traditional stone built Dubrovnik summer house. The villa is situated on the wooded Lapad peninsula which is a superb location for a relaxing holiday. The villa is approached by a private road and set in gardens filled with ancient olive trees, impressive palms, thick laurel shrubs and citrus trees. The sea is only 30 metres away and just a short walk to the nearest beach or to a small harbour where boats can be moored. Copacabana beach, one of the best known beaches in the Dubrovnik area, is 7 minutes walk. The villa itself is tastefully furnished with cool natural colours of sand and a light and airy atmosphere prevails.

ACCOMMODATION

This meticulously renovated villa is comfortable and relaxing with a living area and five bedrooms sleeping nine in total. The villa is arranged on three levels; all rooms are fully air-conditioned and centrally heated.

The ground floor has a spacious dining room, living room, reception room, kitchen and toilet. On the first floor are the two master bedrooms (both with double king size beds; 180cm x 200cm) each with en-suite bathrooms and pleasant views. The attic floor has three more bedrooms (one double, one with twin beds and one single room) and a spacious bathroom.

The kitchen is equipped with dish washer, microwave and coffee maker. Satellite TV is available in the living room and in all bedrooms, the living room has an open fireplace which provides additional warmth and atmosphere for the autumn and winter months. Other facilities include DVD player, internet connection, telephone, iron and ironing board, safety deposit box, hairdryer, toiletries, slippers and bathrobes. A Laundry room is equipped with washing machine and dryer.

Outside

The villa is surrounded by 600 sq metres of mature garden with terraced areas of differing sizes and on various levels, providing sun and shade and a choice of areas to relax and eat with ample outdoor seating. The 24 sq metres swimming pool lies beneath soaring palm trees. Sun beds and sun umbrellas are provided.

Cars can be parked in the villa grounds.

Additional Services

Included in the price are daily maid service, a gardener and pool maintenance. Towels and bed linen are provided. Welcome package of food and drink provided.

Smoking is not permitted in the villa.
Dogs and pets are permitted subject to prior approval

BEACHES

Just a few steps away from the Villa Franica there is a small sheltered beach with sun beds and sun umbrellas. Less than 10 minute walk from the villa is the popular and lively Copacabana beach which provides stunning views of the Adriatic and the nearby islands. On Copacabana beach there is water-skiing, canoes, para-gliding and a diving centre. For youngsters there are sea slides and around the beach are bars and restaurants. All around the Lapad Peninsula there are beaches and spots where you can just take a swim if you feel like it. It is a superb place for walks and swimming. From the old town harbour ferries go regularly to the small island of Lokrum just a few minutes away, where Dubrovnik people traditionally like to go for a swim. There are beaches and cafes just below the town walls.

PLACES TO VISIT AND THINGS TO DO

Dubrovnik Old Town

Dubrovnik is described as the pearl of the Adriatic and rightly so. The beautiful and historic old town, is just 3km from Villa Franica; rich in history and fine architecture and in the summer months offering music and cultural events as part of the Dubrovnik festival Walking the city walls provides wonderful views of the unique and colourful roofscape of the old town and the seascape beyond. Historic buildings include the Franciscan and Dominican monasteries but for many, the best way to enjoy Dubrovnik will be simply to stroll the streets, alleyways and the ancient city walls and relax in the cafes.

Within a walking distance of the Lapad peninsula is another old area of Dubrovnik, called Gruz. This is outside the town walls, and has its own lovely harbour, and old buildings interspersed with markets, supermarkets, shops, banks and many restaurants and cafes. It is nice to sit by the waters edge and enjoy a simple seafood lunch at Orsan Restaurant in the local yacht club.

Nearby Islands

From Dubrovnik boat trips can be taken to the islands of Lokrum, Sipan, Kolocep, Lopud and Mljet, all wonderful islands well worth a day trip. Tours to the Peljesac Peninsula, the Neretva Delta or south into Montenegro and north to the town of Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina) are easily arranged from Dubrovnik.

About 10km from Dubrovnik is a famous old park – arboretum, Trsteno, with the summer villa built by the ancient nobleman Ivan Gucetic between 1494 and 1502.At the same he laid out the structure of the gardens which can be seen today; a Mediterranean garden with a fine array of trees and breathtaking views.

Ston and Mali Ston are historic and picturesque fortified towns that were laid to a grid plan similar to Dubrovnik in the 14th and 15th centuries. The massive fortifications surrounding the towns and the wall spanning the narrow isthmus that joins the Peljesac peninsula to the mainland, provide a spectacular back drop and parts of the wall are open to the public

GETTING THERE

Dubrovnik airport (located near the town of Cavtat to the south of Dubrovnik) is 20 minutes drive from Villa Franica. Travelling from the UK, British Airways flies daily to Dubrovnik during the summer months and three days a week during the winter season. EasyJet flies from Gatwick to Dubrovnik 6 days a week during summer months and from Liverpool 3 days a week. Easyjet also flies direct to Dubrovnik from Geneva, Berlin, Milan and Paris. Flybe flies to Dubrovnik on Sundays from Birmingham, Exeter and Southampton. Both Monarch Airlines and Thomsonfly fly to Dubrovnik on Sundays from Gatwick and Manchester. Globespan flies direct from Edinburgh to Dubrovnik on Wednesdays. Croatia Airlines also provides direct flights from Gatwick to Dubrovnik on Fridays, Sundays and Mondays as well as daily flights from Heathrow to Zagreb with connecting flights to Dubrovnik. An alternative, and usually cheaper, route to Zagreb is by Wizzair from London Luton. From Scandanavia, Scandjet fly to Dubrovnik from Stockholm and Malmo.

RATES & AVAILABILITY

All rates are per week for the whole villa, Saturday to Saturday and are in euros. Subject to prior agreement payment can be made in GBP at the prevailing exchange rate. There are no extras. Tourist tax and daily cleaning are included. Prices are shown on the chart in the left hand (grey) column.
