Villa Marlera
Liznjan, near Pula, Istria
A stunning three bedroom villa built in natural stone and in the traditional style on the outskirts of the village of Liznjan; with pool and in walking distance of the coast, shops and restaurants.
Golf course area. 3 bedrooms, sleeps 6 to 8

This charming villa is on the outskirts of the village of Liznjan close to the sea. Farm tracks lead down to the unspoilt coastline. Inside the villa is stylishly furnished with French doors leading onto a large shaded terrace that looks out over the private swimming pool and garden; ideal for dining alfresco. Upstairs all the bedrooms have French doors that lead onto a large open terrace that looks out onto the countryside and the Adriatic sea.
The villa has been recently built but using natural stone and in traditional style combining the facilities and open plan design of a modern house with the charm and character of a traditional Istrian stone house. This is one of the finest new build stone houses we have seen; the build quality and attention to detail are outstanding. Local restaurants and shops are within walking distance. There are tennis courts a few hundred metres way and bicycle hire can be arranged.

THE VILLAGE AND SURROUNDING AREA
| Liznjan is located at the tip of the Istrian peninsula on the Croatian Adriatic
coastline. Liznjan is a charming agricultural and fishing village set
on high ground about one kilometre from the coast. The village has three
general stores providing a wide range of groceries as well as fresh bread
and vegetables. There is also an excellent butchers.
|

Liznjan Church
|
 Liznjan Village Scene
|
There
are four restaurants and café/bar. The tourist trade is restricted mainly to bed and
breakfast and private apartments rental. The neighbouring village of Medulin
(less than 2 kilometres distant) has a much more extensive tourist trade
with several hotels and a wide range of shops, bars and restaurants.
|
|
The principal town of the area is Pula some 7 kilometres away. Pula has several
modern resort hotels, a historic town centre with a number of Roman monuments,
including a well preserved first century amphitheatre (the sixth largest
in the world), museums, a busy port and shipyard, extensive shopping and
a colourful fruit and vegetable market. Day trips to areas of interest
such as the islands of Brioni or to Venice, can be booked through local
tourist offices.
|

Pula Ampitheatre
|
The
coastline in the area is mainly rocky but heavily indented with many sheltered
bays, pebble beaches, spectacular headlands and, in Medulin bay, many
small islands lying close inshore. The water is exceptionally clean and
perfect for swimming and snorkelling. Most of the coastline around Liznjan
is totally undeveloped and it is possible to find stretches of coastline,
accessed by foot or along farm tracks which will be virtually deserted
even in mid summer. Sandy beaches can be found in Medulin and on some
of the small islands. From Villa Marlera it is possible to walk or bicycle down farm tracks to one of the most beautiful unspoilt stretches of coastline in the area where the swimming is excellent.

GETTING THERE
Fly or Fly Drive: From the UK, Ryanair provides the cheapest travel option. Ryanair
fly to Pula airport, just 12 kilometres from Liznjan. This is the easiest
and often cheapest solution. Alternatives are to fly to Rijeka airport (on the island of Krk) which is less than 2 hours to
Liznjan or to fly Ryanair to Trieste in North Italy (2hrs 30mins drive). There
are also cheap flights daily by Ryanair
to Treviso (just north of Venice) and by Easyjet
or Bristish Airways to Venice (Marco Polo Airport). A couple of days in Venice makes a great
two centre holiday. Another option is to fly Easyjet
to Ljubljana in Slovenia (3hrs). This route opens up the option
of a day or two in the beautiful Slovenian lakes of Bled and Bohinj.
Thomsonfly fly to Pula from Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham on Tuesdays.
From Scandinavia, Scandjet fly directly to Pula from Stockholm and Gothenburg. Germanwings fly direct to Pula from Cologne and Berlin.
Croatia Airlines (Tel: 020 8563 0022) fly to Pula from London Heathrow (via Zagreb) and from Gatwick to Pula direct on Saturdays. Croatia Airlines also fly from Heathrow to Rijeka direct on Wednesdays.
Drive: Fom
the UK via France and Italy or Germany and Austria. We would normally
allow one overnight stop on the way.
You can take the Motor rail to Milan and drive from there.
Other Routes:
There are more exotic options which will allow you to tour in Italy and
Croatia. For example fly to Ancona in Italy and take a ferry across the
Adriatic to Zadar and then drive or take ferries up the Croatian coast
and islands.
