VILLA DESCRIPTION
Villa Stolovi is a very imposing stone-built new detached villa, in the style of old Dalmatian farmhouses of grand proportions. It is situated in several acres of land on a hillside overlooking a huge expanse of the Adriatic sea, with islands dotted below, and the famous island of Hvar in the distance. The gardens are extensive and well stocked with Mediterranean plants and trees. The grounds contain two hard surface tennis courts for the exclusive use of guests. Also available for guests’ exclusive use is a traditional wine cellar at ground-floor level, where guests can help themselves to local dry cured ham and cheese and wines, at reasonable prices. THE SURROUNDING AREA
Dubrovnik
Villa Stolovi is well situated to visit Dubrovnik with its ancient walled city, beaches and rich cultural life. Walk the city walls to view the beautiful roofscape of the old town and the seascape beyond. Visit the Franciscan and Dominican monasteries and enjoy strolling the cobbled streets and alleyways and relaxing in the cafes.
During the summer months the Dubrovnik festival hosts concerts on most nights providing music of all types. Many interesting bars and restaurants – from simple pizzerias and seafood/pasta taverns and delicious ice-cream cafes, to sophisticated restaurants serving fresh local food with special touches of accomplished chefs can be found. There are nightclubs and pubs for night entertainment. Dubrovnik can be reached by car in 1 hour.

Ston and the Peljesac Peninsula
Mail StonA lot closer is the picturesque town of Ston with its small sister town of Mali Ston. They are places of culinary excellence and several renowned seafood restaurants are there, notably Bota Sare and Kapetanova Kuca (Captain’s House) on the seafront of Mali Ston, and Bacchus in Ston. You can sample the excellent local white wine,  Posip, and two great reds : Dingac and Postup.  These towns are less than 30 minute drive from the villa and are on the Peljesac peninsula which is the land you see from the villa across the stretch of Adriatic. More lovely towns follow on Peljesac – Orebic and Trpanj. They have their own beaches. Prapratno Cove, close to Ston, provides one of the finest sandy beaches in Croatia.

The islands of Mljet and KorculaMljet
A 40 minute ferry journey transports you from Prapratno Cove on the Peljesac peninsula to the nature reserve island of Mljet. The most wooded of Croatia’s 1100 islands, Mljet is 30km long and only 3km wide. One third of the island is a national park that contains two lakes that are linked to each other and to the sea. In the centre of the large lake is an island with a Benedictine monastery first established in the 12th century and rebuilt in the Renaissance period.

Another highly recommended trip would be to the island of Korcula. Both car and passenger ferries run from Orebic on the Peljesac peninsula to the town of Korcula on the island of the same name. Korcula Town, considered to be the birth place of Marco Polo, is a beautifully preserved mediaeval town dating from the 13th Century. The town is fortified and positioned on a small elevated peninsula providing a commanding position over the strait between the island and the mainland. Today Korcula’s narrow alleyways and town squares provide the setting for bars, restaurants, shops and galleries.

The Neretva Delta, Mostar and Medugorje
The contrasting landscape of the Neretva Delta, with its fertile groves of oranges and lemons and networks of lakes, rivers, and canals is just a few minutes drive from Villa Stolovi. Over the border in Bosnia, the historic town of Mostar, with its iconic bridge, is 70 kilometres from the Villa and can be reached in less than one hour. A similar distance is the town of Medugorje, a famous place of religious pilgrimage.

GETTING THERE

Dubrovnik airport (located near the town of Cavtat to the south of Dubrovnik) is one hour 20 minute drive from Villa Stolovi. Traveling from the UK, British Airways flies daily to Dubrovnik during the summer months and three days a week during the winter season. Flybe flies three times a week from Birmingham to Dubrovnik. Croatia Airlines also provides direct flights from Gatwick to Dubrovnik as well as daily flights from Heathrow to Zagreb with connecting flights to Dubrovnik. An alternative, and usually cheaper, route to Zagreb is by Wizzair from London Luton. From Scandanavia, Scandjet fly to Dubrovnik from Stockholm and Malmo.
An alternative is to fly to Split and drive the 3 hours down the spectacular coast road from Split to Klek (a new motorway already covering part of the route will reduce the time). British Airways, EasyJet and Wizzair fly directly from London to Split providing a choice of low cost carriers. Scandjet fly to Split from Stockholm, Gothenburg and Oslo. For travelers with some time to spare the Split option provides the chance to visit Diocletian’s Palace in the centre of Split or take a detour on the southerly route by crossing by ferry to Supetar on the island of Brac and returning from the southern end of the island to Makarska on the mainland.
