This spectacular new villa has been built to a modern design to provide a light and airy environment with extensive sea views from most rooms and easy access to the garden, pool and terraces. The villa is located right on the coast in a small sheltered bay on the south west side of the island. It is just a 10 metre walk to the beach. The Villa is five kilometres from Vela Luka, an attractive small town set in the deep bay at the western end of the island of Korcula. Korcula itself is one of the most beautiful Croatian islands. Korcula was voted among the top ten best islands in the world in the 2009 Conde Nast Traveller magazine. The island is nearly 50 kilometres long but less than 8 kilometres wide at its widest point. It has numerous bays and beaches and the Adriatic sea is crystal clear and unpolluted. The perfectly preserved medieval town of Korcula is claimed to be the birth place of Marco Polo and is one of the most notable historic towns in Croatia and a popular tourist destination. Surrounded by ancient walls and criss-crossed by narrow cobbled streets and alleyways the elegant Venetian style houses surround small squares and face out directly over the sea.

Other services

Maid service and chef can be provided at extra cost if required. As an indication the cost of a chef and the provision of food for continental breakfast and a main meal (usually lunch) would be 2000 euro per week for eight persons. Meals would be based on local ingredients and include freshly caught fish grilled or prepared to the guests’ wishes. Wine and soft drinks would be included in the price.

Yacht charter

The villa owner can also charter his yacht either with a skipper or to appropriately qualified yachtsmen. We can make recommendations for the hire of smaller boats.

Things to Do

Vela Luka
Vela Luka
For those looking for a more active holiday there is plenty to choose from in the vicinity of Villa Zaglav. Skuba diving courses are run from the nearby diving centre Triporte in the bay of Tri Luka. A range of small motor boats can be hired in Vela Luka; the perfect way to explore the many inlets, coves and islands around the coast of Korcula. Rafting on the river Cetina is possible through daily tours which entail a hydrofoil crossing to the mainland from Vela Luka. The surrounding countryside is ideal for walking and bicycling and bike hire is available locally.

Eating out; food and wine

There are many restaurants, pizzerias and café bars in Vela Luka which is just 5 kilometres away. Visit the local olive mill and buy the local prize winning extra virgin olive oil. Try local wines and visit vineyards.

Beaches

The are dozens of bays around the island that are perfect for swimming. Among the most highly regarded are, at the east end of the island, the large sandy beach at Lumbarda; more secluded and closer to Villa Zaglav, the beautiful Pupnatska Bay; and the beach on Proid island near Vela Luka is considered one of the best naturist beaches in Croatia. And of course immediately below Villa Zaglav is the secluded Zaglav Bay which is ideal for swimming and just a few steps away from the villa.

Places to visit

Korcula
Korcula
Mljet
Mljet
The trip to the town of Korcula at the east end of the island is essential. This compact and charming mediaeval walled town perched on a small peninsula is one of the absolute gems of the Adriatic coast.

From Korcula there are also ferry connections to Dubrovnik, the island of Mljet - with an ancient monastery on an island in a salt water lake - and to the town on Orebic on the Peljesac peninsula. All places well worth visiting. Boat trips from Vela Luka will take you to the islands of Lastovo and Vis, two of the most outlying of the Croatian islands and each fascinating in its own way. There are also ferry connections from Vela Luka to Split, Croatia’s second city and a bustling port but the reason to go there is to see the wonderful Diocletian’s Palace, now a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Palace, built by the Roman Emperor Diocletian at the end of the third century AD, forms the core of the old town and has been adapted and remodeled throughout the ages so that it displays a breathtaking mix of architecture from the Roman through to the later Venetian period. A few kilometres up the coast is the smaller but perfectly formed medieval town of Trogir, also a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.
