Windsurfing, lovely beaches, little cafes, lively restaurants. A very pretty village with a big impact, Viganj is a place of wild beauty, clear sea, lovely beaches which sometimes have 4.5 metre high waves. It is great for windsurfing and kite surfing, and well known to windsurfers from all over the world. There are several windsurfing schools and centres in Viganj. They offer different windsurfing classes, as well as equipment rental. Mornings are for beginners, with a light wind, and afternoons are for the advanced . It is also becoming a favourite area for diving, walking and cycling with a myriad of paths and gravel roads leading through olive groves and vineyards. It is located on the south west of the Peljesac peninsula, just 7km from Orebic town and a short ferry ride to Korcula from Orebic. If you land at Dubrovnik, it is a 2 hour drive away.
Traditionally, this was the place where people caught fish and grew vines and olives. There is still that, but now some pretty villas and old restored stone farmhouses with sparkling pools bring satisfied holiday makers into the village. Cafes and restaurants line the harbour. Along the harbour there are some grand old houses built by rich sea captains and merchants and their gardens are full of exotic Mediterranean plants. Watersports are popular, and you can also do trips to numerous Peljesac wineries. Or climb the Mt St Elijah (Sv. Ilija) 960 metres high (guide recommended). The roads are great for cycling among vineyards and along the coast. The local church has a painting of the Battle of Lepanto and some beautiful medieval wood carvings.
