About Vir, Privlaka and Nin

Many villas in this area are an easy walk down to a pebble beach or to the village centres for shopping or a meal out

The small town of Vir is located on a small island of Vir which is linked to the nainland by a bridge at Privlaka, in the Zadar region of the Adriatic coast of Croatia. It is 26km north of Zadar. It comprises small holiday villas and several pebbly beaches, with very clear sea, great for swimming. Life on Vir is very slow and relaxing. There are several grocery shops, a market and some excellent restaurants, beach bars, cafes. Fish, sea food and home grown lamb are excellent. Traditionally it is a wine growing, farming and fishing area, and tourism has developed over the past 50 years. You can enjoy this sunny and tranquil beach heaven and take walks through olive grows, pine woods, picking figs growing wild along the way.The old part of the village is very beautiful, and has several churches from 12th and 13th century. Although small in size, Vir island boasts numerous sights. The most famous is certainly the Kastelina, a sixteenth-century fort built by Venetians as defence against Turks and local pirates.
