For many generations the owners of this villa have promoted and nurtured the beauty and special charm of the Croatian island of Hvar, voted by travel experts to be among the top ten islands in the world. The family's love for the island is reflected in the vast tracts of wild and beautiful Mediterranean parkland that they have developed over decades and culltivated in the countryside around Hvar. In villa Fara they have created a smaller version of that parkland in the 1000 square metres of sumptuous garden of the villa. The villa is a few metres away from the sea, and after crossing the local road in front of the villa, you will walk down the steps directly to the sea, where you can swim.

Inside the villa, cool rooms and many bathrooms provide modern comfort, and the fantastic works of art throughout the house, collected over the years from the best  Croatian artists, combine magically with sea views. Garden terraces and the outdoor summer kitchen allow you to spend wonderful time cooking and dining al fresco, surrounded by the amazing garden and pine woods. You are only about 15 mins walk from the town centre with its famous nightlife, culture and restaurants.

Villa Fara - Hvar town on Hvar island

The villa is laid out on two floors and arranged as two separate 3 bedroom apartments (150 square metres each). The apartments, each of which has two air-conditioning units, are linked by an indoor staircase and the villa is suitable to be rented as one unit of 300 square metres.

Ground floor

An open plan kitchen- diner and a sitting room have a large sliding door which leads out onto a spacious south facing garden terrace, also furnished with a large dining table. The kitchen is equipped with an electric hob, oven, dishwasher, fridge- freezer, microwave, toaster, coffee machine and plenty of good cooking utensils, plates and glassware. Washing machine and hair dryer are also provided separately. The sitting room contains sofa and chairs, satellite TV/D VD player, home cinema, and wireless internet connection. A main bedroom with a double bed and an en-suite shower room is equipped with a wardrobe and a coffee table with armchairs. This bedroom has its own private garden terrace. In addition, there is a second double bedroom and a twin bedroom, which share a shower room. The bedrooms are decorated with original paintings which evoke seaside colours of blue and green. One extra bed can be provided on request. A second terrace tiled with black and white tiles, is covered and provides an outdoor dining table and chairs for 12-15 people.

First floor

A sunny sitting room (second sitting room) opens out onto a veranda, with table and chairs. Several sofas and chairs provide plentiful seating, and the TV/DVD/music player. A gleaming white kitchen diner overlooks the garden and also opens out onto a covered terrace for dining. Three double bedrooms face south and have breath taking sea views. Each bedroom has a French door opening out onto a terrace that sweeps along the whole length of the villa and has outdoor furniture. Two bedrooms have double beds, and one has twin beds. On this floor there is a separate bathroom with a bath and shower, and another with a shower. The upstairs bedrooms have warm sunny colours of summer and wood parquet floors. All have lovely sea views. Two spacious bathrooms are on this floor. Two extra beds can be provided on request.

This villa has an enchanting garden. It is surrounded by pine woods, and the scent of pine and sea is felt throughout its garden. The sea is glimpsed shimmering through the trees. The garden is full of exotic Mediterranean and tropic plants, such as numerous palms, bougainvillea, hibiscus, wisteria, lilies, oleander, many scented herbs and flowers. Shaded paths lead you through the garden. A 24 square metre blue mosaic pool is equipped with sun beds and pool towels. Hammocks and a coffee table are by the pool. There are relaxing terraces in front of many rooms and bedrooms and also in the garden. The outdoor summer kitchen is a great place to cook and socialise outside. Guests are very happy to spend time there and enjoy dining in the sunny garden or sitting in the shade of the covered terrace of the summer kitchen, a barbecue and an outdoor oven. You can swim in the sea just 40 metres below the house. There are steps down to a platform where you can sunbathe and swim. About 200 metres from the villa is a very nice pebble beach. There are plenty of other beaches in town, and the nearby islands offer a whole range of wonderful, sandy and pebbly coves, easily reached by boat and water taxies from Hvar.

Hvar is one of the most beautiful and most fashionable towns in Croatia. It is small and relaxing, but it is full of great Italianate medieval architecture, 700 years old city walls, dominated by what is arguably the most beautiful ancient town square in Croatia. Paved with ancient stone slabs the square is and surrounded by renaissance palaces from the 15th and 16th century. Amongst the most beautiful of these is the old 17th century theatre and a Venetian loggia. Narrow streets with old houses and villas radiate away from the town square, and several grand hotels from the bygone age are facing the square. Lively restaurants and bars are another attraction for tourists and many grand yachts jostle for a position in the little harbour lined with palm trees. On top of the hill is an old fortress from which there is a spectacular view of the sea and islands. Walking along the harbour front to the town square to relax in the cafes, bars and restaurants, enjoying a cappuccino, an ice-cream, a cool beer or a lunch of grilled fresh fish and marvellous olive oils and local wines, whilst the world lazily passes by. These are the simple pleasures of holidaying in Hvar.

Hvar is unique in that it both relaxing and restful, whilst at the same time having a lively atmosphere. There is history, architecture, superb dining, walks along narrow cobbled streets, all kinds of sports, as well as smart nightclubs, beaches and swimming. It is popular with the sailing community, young adults and family groups, not to mention European royalty and Hollywood celebrities. There is really something for everyone. Many good restaurants and bars are dotted all around the town of Hvar, serving either simple fresh seafood and pasta, or providing a full-on gastronomic experience, such as Macondo restaurant in one of the small Hvar side streets. Seasoned party goers recommend the Carpe Diem nightclub in the harbour, which is furnished with exotic Arabian furniture and dècor and provides cocktails and champagne until small hours of the morning.

More superb restaurants are located on the nearby Pakleni islands, which can be reached reach by taxi boats running from the town quay. Our favourites are Patak (also known as Kod Patka) and Meneghello, the latter in a lush tropical garden and decorated with exotic art work; they are both restaurants which provide great cooking and a magical location.

There are swimming areas and small beaches as you walk along the coast path around the town. Some of the most beautiful beaches are to be found on the Pakleni islands such as Palmizana and Stipanska beaches, reached by taxi boat from Hvar town.

Other towns on the island
Stari Grad, Jelsa and Vrbovska, on the north side of the island are all delightful harbour towns with the typical stone houses, busy harbours tight with local fishing boats and visiting yachts. Waterside restaurants and cafes surround the harbours and nearby beaches provide excellent swimming. Inland, smaller villages such as Dol, Zavala and many others are also worth a visit.

Hvar is reached by regular car ferry service from Split to Stari Grad and from to Drvenik to Sucuraj at the eastern end of the island. Catamaran passenger ferries operate to Hvar Town and Jelsa.

Dubrovnik Airport

Dubrovnik Airport is located near the town of Cavtat to the south of Dubrovnik.

Island of Hvar

The simplest connection to the island is to fly to Split and connect by ferry from Split ferry port to either Stari Grad (car ferry) or Hvar town (passenger ferry). Details also on the Jadrolinija website.

Another option is to fly to Dubrovnik. The road journey from Dubrovnik Airport to Split ferry port is four hours with a scenic motorway much of the way. If you want to spend a day or two in Dubrovnik this can work fine. There is a ferry crossing from the coast road at Drvenik to Sucuraj at the east end of Hvar island. However we would warn travellers that the 75km road up the island to Hvar town is very narrow and bendy; a difficult and slow route.

Split Airport

Split Airport is located to the west of Split close to the town of Trogir. It is 20 minutes drive from the airport to the ferry port in Split.
