Accommodation

The sprawling farmhouse comprises of 335 square metres of living space and sits in half an acre (2000 m2) garden with a very large pool.

Ground floor

Terracotta tiles cover the whole ground floor. A lovely sitting room has exposed stone walls, plenty of comfortable sofas and armchairs, nice old Istrian furniture and lighting. Here you can relax in front of the satellite TV/DVD and music centre, a home cinema and in cooler months, by the fire in the open rustic fireplace. A separate kitchen with pale green walls and dark green modern version of a country kitchen has a breakfast bar and is equipped with a cooker, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave oven, coffee machine, kettle, toaster and excellent cooking utensils, plates and glassware. A separate dining room also in rustic style is next to the kitchen and accommodates 10 to 12 people. A separate ground floor annexe with a sitting room, kitchenette, double bedroom and bathroom is attached to the villa on the ground floor and has a French door into the garden. In the single storey part of the farm which used to be a store house for the family's olive oil and wine, now there is a games room with a pool table, table tennis and table football. How lovely that it opens out onto the garden. You can enjoy the indoor Jacuzzi spa and a sauna on the ground floor.

First floor

On the first floor are four wonderful bedrooms, each one with its en-suite shower room. Two bedrooms have extra large double beds, and two are furnished with twin beds. There is air conditioning in every bedroom and each has a lovely view of the green and lush garden. All the bathrooms are new and tastefully tiled with Italian tiles and bathroom furniture and fittings. Beds are very comfortable and provided with good quality bed linen and also towels. All the furnishings are in old Istrian style.

Outside

The large garden is dominated by a very old mulberry tree which is typical for old Istrian farmhouses. The garden is wonderful and has a nice and very large swimming pool 10 x 5 metres, and also a children's swimming pool. Around the pool is a sunbathing area provided with sunbeds, sun umbrellas and pool towels. There are several patios, covered terraces and a barbecue for outdoor dining. It is a paradise for families with children and for anyone who wishes to be in tranquillity but only 20 mins away from wonderful renaissance Venetian style towns and beaches.

Full of character, lovely pool
Very well equipped and full of character. Suited the age ranges in our party from young children to grandparents. Lovely pool and
outdoor areas.

About location:

A good nearby town, but you did really need a car for day to day access, as expected. Great local wines and trip to a winery was a
very good experience.

A place for keen cooks in a quiet rural setting
The villa was pretty perfect for us. The quiet rural setting suited us and there was plenty of space for us all. The owner's son was excellent in terms of answering questions and recommending restaurants etc. I am a keen cook and massively enjoyed the outside kitchen and equipment available. The owner's recipe book of Croatian cuisine was a gift to us on our departure which was a fantastic touch. I think you could market the property much more as a place for keen cooks as not only was the property excellent in terms of facilities, the village shops were surprisingly great for ingredients (I got fresh yeast for my pizza bases!) and we went to a regional pasta festival on our last night - in the village which was a lovely end to our week.

My brother and family were across from New Zealand and went on the trip with us so I wanted to get it right which I think I did.

Just returned from a week at Fig Tree Farmhouse. What a comfortable and beautiful house; the pictures do not do the property justice. We were delighted to find that the farmhouse had been newly renovated to a very high whilst still retaining its original features and charm. Each room was clean and beautifully finished, the largest bedroom which was contained in a seperate outhouse included a sauna and jacuzzi which was a firm favourite with all the family.

The jewel in this property's crown is the outdoor eating area. A large covered dining area and fireplace made family meal times in the evening a real pleasure. Lit by candlelight we ate and chatted over glasses of Istrian wine poured into the 'goldfish bowl' wine glasses provided and wrapped ourselves in cosy blankets. Only downside were the flies which seemed to gather in the hot afternoons although mosquitoes were virtually non existent.

House owned by the lovely Ivan and Silvano who could not do enough to assist us on our trip. We squeezed cycling, horse riding, 2 meals out, a trip to the red islands and Venice into 1 week! They were so kind and accommodating.

Would definitely return!

Airports in Italy

One option for getting to Istria, the north west end of the Croatian coastline, is to fly to Italy. This works particularly well if you are staying in northern Istria or in you want to combine your holiday with a short stay in Venice

Ryanair flies regularly to Trieste in north Italy from London-Stansted. There are also flights from Bari, Trapani, Alghero and Valencia. Trieste Airport is 1 hour drive from the Croatia/Slovenia border.

Slightly further away, but still within reach, there are regular flights by Ryanair from many European cities to Treviso (just north of Venice). EasyJet and British Airways and many other operators fly to Venice (Marco Polo Airport). A couple of days in Venice makes a great two centre holiday.
