Luxury, new family Villa Roxy has four double bedrooms, three bathrooms, a large garden with private pool, air conditioning, WiFi and a garage plus extra parking. Sea views and scented pine woodland add to the relaxing feel of this sunny luxury holiday home, located on one of the most beautiful and famous islands in the world, Hvar island. Hvar and its towns and villages offer gourmet experience based on the healthy Mediterranean diet which uses the locally made olive oil, fantastic red wine called Plavac and fresh fish and shellfish. You will be spoilt for choice between the Michelin star restaurants and little harbourside taverns. Even the most demanding reveller will be impressed with the beach clubs and night bars such as Carpe Diem and Laganini on the nearby Pakleni islands. If you wish to lead a completely healthy life, there is plenty of hiking, biking, wild swimming and water sports of every type. Children will enjoy snorkelling in the warm, crystal clear sea.

The nearest town is Stari Grad, just two kilometres away. It has shops, supermarket and a few very good restaurants. In addition, visit the beautiful, historic town of Hvar, then gorgeous Jelsa, Vrbovska and pretty Milna.  Lose yourself in the wonderful, natural beauty of Hvar island, or party all night with the rich and famous from all over the world, or do both!

Luxury Hvar villa Roxy is one of the collection of eleven similar private villas on a secluded spot with sea views, but close to all the amenities of Stari Grad. This is the fourth villa in the collection and has the most distant location away from the entrance to the village. Families will appreciate the space in this gorgeous villa, spreading over 280 square metres set in a garden of 1000 square metres.

Please note some of the internal images will be from other villas in the complex but the interior design and décor is identical for all the villas.

When you travel from Split to Hvar island by ferry, you disembark a mile away from one of the oldest towns in Europe, The Old Town! In Croatian language that is "Stari Grad". The fertile land and a safe bay were attractive to the wondering Greeks and so they founded this town in the 4th century BC and named it Faros. Stari Grad - Faros is now a wonderful little town on Hvar Island, of about 2000 people living there. This is a great choice for discerning travellers seeking authentic, historic holiday places where they can enjoy gentle walks, sunny beaches, good food, seaside cafes and quiet town squares. There is night life in Stari Grad too, but it is of a much milder nature than in Hvar Town, which you should also visit. There are excellent museums, two theatres, singing choirs.
Stari grad has some amazing, old stone buildings, of which the most famous one is the 16th century ancient castle and the home of the renaissance poet and nobleman Petar Hektorovich, with the strange name of Tvrdalj, one of the first places in Europe to install toilets. Fishing was the main activity in Stari Grad in the past  - the venerated Poet's most famous work is called "Fishing and Fishermen's Talk". In this famous piece of early Croatian literature the poet extols the beauties of Adriatic sea and the islands of Hvar, Brac and Solta, which he is visiting with a couple of wise and capable local fishermen.  Even that long ago, the poet's message was - this is a heavenly place, perfect for relaxation and the enjoyment of nature, with good fresh food and wonderful people.
Stari Grad is a perfect place for families. Apart from snorkelling and safe swimming, you will find a sailing school, guitar school and theatre workshops for kids, water sports, caving, rock climbing and extreme sports. One of the hardest international swimming Marathons happens there in August. Stari Grad has pebbly and sandy beaches.

Something unique about Stari Grad will delight the history buffs, nature lovers and cyclists - the UNESCO heritage site which is actually a series of ancient fields with a country road going through it - the so called Stari Grad Plain. The ancient Greeks devised geometrical parcels with hand stacked stone boundaries, water tanks and rain collecting canals, and this 2500 year old heritage is now seen as of Outstanding Universal Value for the whole world. It is not a museum, but preserved and still living ancient farmed countryside where you can lose yourself and ride your bike in peace and silence. All should experience this 2500 year old human endeavour. You will see ancient tool sheds, underground water collectors, small chapels and rustic villa remains. As a 21st century addition, there is a small airport in the middle of the fertile plain, exclusively for small planes and helicopters, for maximum six passengers. You can also go sky-diving there.

Ferries to Hvar island

The simplest connection to the island is to fly to Split and connect by ferry from Split ferry port to either Stari Grad (car ferry) or Hvar town (passenger ferry).

The car ferry (Jadrolinja line 635) is a two hour crossing and runs seven times a day in peak season. The last crossing from Split is at 8.30pm although in July and August there is also a 1.30am crossing.  The fast passenger only catamaran services takes approximatley 55 minutes and arrives directly on the Riva in Hvar town.  There are regular services provided by Jadrolinija and Kapetan Luka. Refer to their websites for timetables.

Another option is to fly to Dubrovnik. From Dubrovnik Airport to Drvenik on the coast road is 145km (two hours 20 minutes drive) and from here there is a ferry to Sucuraj at the east end of Hvar island. The crossing is 35 minutes and the ferry runs 11 times a day with the earliest departure from Drvenik at 5.45am and the last at 10.45pm (Jadrolinija line 632). However we would warn travellers that the 75km road up the island to Hvar town is very narrow and bendy; a slow route and although scenic a difficult drive.

There is a daily crossing to the pretty harbour town of Jelsa on the north coast of Hvar island. This crossing (line 9603 with Jadrolinija) runs once a day leaving Split in the afternoon and stopping at Bol on Brac island en route. The ferry back from Jelsa to Split departs early in the morning so can provide a day trip from Hvar island to Split or for a day on the Golden Horn beach in Bol on Brac island.

Croatian Villa Holidays can organize private taxi boat transfers from the quay near Split airport to Hvar.  Prices will depend on date, time and the numbers in your party. Crossing time generally about 50 minutes to one hour.

Split Airport

Split Airport is located to the west of Split close to the town of Trogir. It is 25 minutes drive from the airport to the ferry port in Split although you should allow longer in mid summer.

There are bus and taxi services into Dubrovnik centre. A taxi transfer can be expected to cost around 35 to 40 euro one way depending on the time of day and the season and a minibus around 50-60 euros.   A shuttle bus service from the airport to Dubrovnik is 7.5 euro per person each way.

Croatian Villa Holidays can arrange taxi transfers directly to your villa.
