This villa is a rare find, a very spacious, light and comfortable villa which can easily accommodate large groups. There are plenty of bathrooms, a gorgeous pool and a secluded one acre (4000 square metre) garden which is right on the seashore, with direct access from the garden. The best beach is 500 metres away.

It is located in a quiet and attractive location in a very charming fishing village, famous for its mussels. The villa is close to shops, a market, a bakery, cafes and many restaurants. At the distant end of the village there is a small and pretty marina where you can moor yachts up to 14 metres length.

The kitchen is tiled with cream ceramic tiles and has smart red Italian kitchen units with fridge-freezer, dishwasher, cooker and hob, microwave, coffee machine, kettle, blender, cooking utensils and smart tableware. Outside

Villa Del Mar is within a large walled garden which backs directly onto the seashore, and the owner provides kayaks and a pedalo for use by guests. The beach below the villa is not ideal for swimming but there is a nice swimming beach about 500 metres away. Additionally, there is a children's play area in the garden with swings and slides. The garden has a large green lawn, scented Mediterranean shrubs, climbing plants, fruit trees and olive trees. The villa has a large pool, 12 x 4 metres, and sun loungers and umbrellas are provided. At one end of the poolside area is a covered summer kitchen with a barbecue and outdoor dining table and chairs.

The villa was generally excellent
The villa was excellent but for one or two small problems. The lack of an internal staircase meant we had to carry prepared food from the upstairs kitchen out of the front door, down the steps to the poolside table. The furniture included glass-topped tables and white upholstered dining chairs, which were not really suitable with small children in our party and the steps around the villa were a potential hazard for the children. It was nice to have the sea at the bottom of the garden, but we were disappointed that it was not ideal for swimming in, being full of reeds and grasses. But we did make use of the kayak and the pedalo provided. The pool was a big success and the climbing frame was also popular with the children.

About location:

Villa was in a lovely quiet village with small supermarket, bakery and two nice restaurants. There was a nice beach 500 metres away and a better one reachable by walking across a narrow pontoon.

Pula is the main regional town in Istria, with an attractive shopping area, spectacular harbour, lively night live, amazing history, many restaurants and cafes and wonderful beaches. Walk through Pula and experience old town streets and squares some of which were there even in Roman times. The stunning Roman amphitheatre is from the first century AD and ranks as the sixth largest in the world. The amphitheatre or "Arena" is still used for concerts (classical and pop), for gladiatorial re-enactments and for showing Pula's annual film festival. Watching one of these events under the night sky and from the same stone seats that were being used 2000 years ago is a unique experience. The amphitheatre is open to the public daily (pulainfo.hr). Other Roman monuments in Pula include a Triumphal Arch at the entrance to the main shopping street.
The museum is full of artefacts and stonework from Roman times. The Forum, a square surrounded by Roman and renaissance architecture, is a delightful spot to relax over a coffee or a cool drink. Istria is an integral part of Croatia's move into the music festival market. The 19th-century fort of Punta Christo, outside Pula, will echo to the throb of sound systems during the Outlook festival at the end of August each year. Pula is an important port and industrial centre and the shipyard with huge ships under repair and construction right on the harbour front and with its cranes illuminated at night, provides an unusual back drop to this historic town.

A little further out of town the nature reserve of Rt Karmenjak on the very tip of the Istrian peninsula provides kilometres of unspoilt coastline and many bays or rocky headlands where you can swim in the crystal clear sea.

Brioni islands
The nearby Brioni islands are a national park area and formerly the summer residence of Yugoslavia's President Tito. During Tito's era many world leader visited this pretty group of small islands which Tito populated with exotic wild animals to entertain his guests. Today visitors can stay in the hotel on the islands or make boat trips from Pula harbour or from the town of Fazana.
