Supetar on the north side of Brac island is the largest town on the island. The numerous passenger and car ferries come to Supetar from Split, a lovely 50 minute scenic ride. On Brac there is also a small airport, about 30 min drive from Supetar. On arriving by ferry or a yacht it is a beautiful sight to see the Supetar harbour with its charming stone houses crowding around it. Walk into any one of the local restaurants for refreshments, the food is excellent, fresh, simple, tasty and home cooked. If you are travelling by car, this is the place to stock up in the local supermarket. The town has many restaurants and shops, and quite a lot of history and culture. Go and see early Christian mosaics from the 6th century where an early Christian Basilica used to stand, have a look at the Church of St Mary as well as the sculptures of the 19th century sculptor Ivan Rendic in his gallery. A great family resort with sandy and pebbly beaches, good for swimming and sunbathing and a variety of water sports on offer. In the evening the centre is busy with cocktail bars and evening street markets

Island of Brac

The simplest connection to the island is to fly to Split and take the regular ferry crossings from Split ferry port to Supetar on Brac. The ferry port is a 25 minute drive from Split Airport. The ferry (car or foot passenger) takes 45 minutes and there are regular crossings during the summer. A bus service from Split Airport to the ferry port in Split is also available.

The ferry timetable for the Jadrolinija line from Split to Supetar on the island of Brac can be found on the Jadrolinija website. Cars can be hired at Split Airport. They can also be hired on arrival at Supetar from local firm MB Renta on the harbour front. Scooters and bicycles can also be rented. The local bus company, Autotrans runs buses several times a day between the principal towns on the island. Timetables can be found on the Autotrans website.

There is also a regular car ferry service from Makarska on the mainland directly to Sumartin at the south east end of the island (see Jadrolinija website for sailing schedule and prices). This crossing is convenient if arriving from the direction of Dubrovnik. There is also a passenger ferry service to Brac running four days a week from Split directly to the town of Milna. Details also on the Jadrolinija website.

Brac has its own small airport near the town of Bol. Light aircraft can fly into this airport and there are connections from Split Airport. Information on the Brac airport website.

If travelling to Brac from the Dubrovnik direction it is preferable to take the ferry crossing from Makarska to Sumartin. The service is less frequent than the Split/Supetar crossing and it is essential to check the timetable on the Jadrolinija website.

Split Airport

Split Airport is located to the west of Split close to the town of Trogir. It is 20 minutes drive from the airport to the ferry port in Split.
