This Villa is situated on the beautiful Island of Brac, on the higher slopes of the village of Lozisca and has a breathtaking sea view. Lozisca is on the west side of the island with a south-west view to the sea. With approximately 150 residents, the village is an untouched enclave of old Mediterranean culture and classified as a national heritage site. Residents are mostly farmers and fishermen and still working in traditional ways. All houses in the village are made of stone and in the village centre is a beautiful church built in the early 19th century in the neo-Romanesque style.

Villa Morena itself has been recently renovated, retaining the original stonework, creating the traditional Mediterranean style, as well as modern luxury and comfort. The Villa is situated in a plot of approximately 1000 square metres and is 1.8km from the coast, and 5km from the attractive harbour town of Milna. Brac is a beautiful unspoilt island close to the mainland and the fascinating city of Split. The island's coastline is studded with villages built from the local white stone (a wing of the White House in Washington is built from the same stone). Inland, there are some charming old villages nestling between olive groves and vineyards. Sandy and pebbly beaches are everywhere and the spectacular beach in the little town of Bol is deemed to be one of the most beautiful in the world.

The island is easily accessible by ferry from Split, which goes round the clock during the summer season, and several times a day during the rest of the year. Low cost airlines (easyJet, Flybe, German Wings and Scanjet), British Airways and Croatia Airlines fly directly to Split. Split itself is full of antiquities, markets, galleries, restaurants and clubs and is famous for the palace of the Roman emperor Diocletian. Split has been designated a UNESCO world cultural heritage site. It is well worth a visit.

Superb local fresh fish and locally produced meat and wine are memorable and watersports are available. The climate is mild all year round, with over 300 days of sunshine. The sea is warm, clear and unpolluted, and everyone swims in it. This is an ideal holiday destinations for families, teenagers and adults.

Driving on the road from Milna to Sutivan on the island of Brac, you will come to a point where you will spot a tall and magnificently carved church tower, created in 1889. It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful church towers in the whole of Croatia. This is in the small village if Lozisca, "The Vineyard Place", where stone houses with slate roofs line little steep cobbled streets and look at the sea which is about a mile away. The church is dedicated to St Blaise, the patron saint of Dalmatia and contains a historically important organ. This is a very rural settlement, all made of stone, on top of a steep hill. Facades look southwards towards the sun, and indoors, there is still in use the central feature of a Brac house, an open fireplace. Stone tables along the walls are still used to dry figs, almonds and other agricultural produce. Water was collected from roofs, into stone wells. Many houses still retain these features, and incorporate modern luxuries as well. Some houses are very grand, some are smaller cottages and there are some restored and enlarged properties, available for rentals. The nearest beach is in the pretty village Bobovisca by the Sea, a really stunning spot, well worth visiting for beaches, restaurants, cafes and shops. Lozisca are definitely an "away from it all" place, with many very authentic and quirky features and stunning views. In the valley it is interesting to see the old stone pools made for the gathering of rain water which were used for cattle and field watering. A car is essential to get to many lovely beaches and other sights which are within easy reach.

Island of Brac

The simplest connection to the island is to fly to Split and take the regular ferry crossings from Split ferry port to Supetar on Brac. The ferry port is a 25 minute drive from Split Airport. The ferry (car or foot passenger) takes 45 minutes and there are regular crossings during the summer. A bus service from Split Airport to the ferry port in Split is also available.

The ferry timetable for the Jadrolinija line from Split to Supetar on the island of Brac can be found on the Jadrolinija website. Cars can be hired at Split Airport. They can also be hired on arrival at Supetar from local firm MB Renta on the harbour front. Scooters and bicycles can also be rented. The local bus company, Autotrans runs buses several times a day between the principal towns on the island. Timetables can be found on the Autotrans website.

There is also a regular car ferry service from Makarska on the mainland directly to Sumartin at the south east end of the island (see Jadrolinija website for sailing schedule and prices). This crossing is convenient if arriving from the direction of Dubrovnik. There is also a passenger ferry service to Brac running four days a week from Split directly to the town of Milna. Details also on the Jadrolinija website.

Brac has its own small airport near the town of Bol. Light aircraft can fly into this airport and there are connections from Split Airport. Information on the Brac airport website.

If travelling to Brac from the Dubrovnik direction it is preferable to take the ferry crossing from Makarska to Sumartin. The service is less frequent than the Split/Supetar crossing and it is essential to check the timetable on the Jadrolinija website.
