Most travel insurance policies that were issued after the start of the pandemic excluded any claims connected with coronavirus. Subsequently some companies began to offer policies that provided some COVID related cover but none have provided the full range of travel cover that you would want. For UK citizens most exclude cover if you are traveling to a destination that is subject to a Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) travel warning. A few insurance companies are offering a FCDO travel warning extension clause. This clause generally provides cover for Non-COVID related claims but excludes any claims that are connected with the reason that the travel warning had been put in place, for example, COVID.
So the extension clause is not really of much help if you want to book a holiday to a destination that is subject to a FCDO travel warning. The FCDO extension is of some value for lost luggage, theft, and non-COVID medical expenses but does not cover you for cancellations due to COVID.
