A peaceful undiscovered island with hidden bays and pretty harbours; a great destination for relaxation away from the crowds

Small, herb scented island, offering special  home produced honey, quiet sheltered coves, old cottages, simple life, accessible from Split. The small and beautiful island of Solta does not usually come top of the list of "top places to visit".  It is just 9 miles from Split and you can see it basking in sunshine from harbour cafes in Split. For those who like original, authentic places which have not been "done up", but have villages full of old limestone houses with blue and green shutters, reminiscent of Italy and the South of France, but without the crowds, this is the place to go to. Life is incredibly low key, and the locals produce excellent red wine, top quality virgin olive oil, and best of all their world-famous therapeutic organic honey. You will have a healthy and relaxing holiday.  The island is hilly, with cliffs and deep bays. Lovely beaches and sheltered coves are irresistible for swimming.
